Singeing definition in Textile||Types of Singeing
What is Singeing?
Singeing is a process of removing loose hairy protruding fibres from the surface of a cloth. It helps in giving smooth, clear and sharp design to a cloth.
Singeing Process Objective
-Main objective is to burn off the protruding fibres from the surface of the cloth without damaging the fabric or cloth.
Singeing Machine
Three types of machines that are commonly used are:
1.) Plate Singeing Machine
2.) Roller Singeing MAchine
3.) Gas Singeing Machine
1.) Plate
Two curved plates are placed and heated upto bright redness using a furnace below these plates and fabric/cloth is pass over it touching each plate by changing the surface of cloth simultaneously. This helps in burning of protruding fibre from the surface.
- Fibres at interstices are not removed effectively.
- Lustre is developed in the fabric, due to the continous contact of hard and hot surface, which is not required.
- Formation of grrove occur due to continous movement of cloth
- Maintaining both the plate at uniform tempereature may not be possible.
2.) Roller
In this machine, roller is used in place of plate that is heated upto 1400°C and provide uniform heat across the surface of fabric by the slow rotation of cylinder.
Problems:
- Due to continous passing of fabric, here also formation of groove occur.
3.) Gas
In this, cloth is continously pass through guide roller and two burner is use in order to burn the hairy fibres (both sides) from the surface of the cloth. Then, cloth is pass through the quench in order to extinguish the flame if carried.
