TOP WOOL PRODUCING COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD
Australia is the leading country in producing wool in the world with 25% of total production. China and United states are the two competitors for the 2nd position having china (18%) where United States (17%) of total production. Then comes, NewZealand 11% of total production followed by many other countries that is shown below in the table.
Types of wool
There are two types of wool based on the properties like diameter of fibre, fineness of fibre plays major role. Other quality factors are strength, length, contaminants, uniformity & color.
Grading of wool in India
In India, based on the diameter of merino wool grading given as :
Wool finer than 25 microns are used as garments and coarser grade wool is used for outerwear, rugs and blankets.
Top 10 wool producing states in India
Rajasthan is the largest wool producing state in India with producing around 30% of wool (15 million tones every year) . There are total of 70 wool processing units in Rajasthan which helps in increasing productivity of wool.
